OLLI at UVa is always seeking new instructors to teach day or evening courses in a wide variety of subjects, including art, health, history, current events, international affairs, environmental/nature, government and politics, philosophy, science, and just about any other topic imaginable. Instructors teach in Charlottesville, Staunton, and Nellysford.
At OLLI there are no grades, no credit, no tests–just the pleasure of sharing your knowledge and experience with those who greatly appreciate that gift.
All OLLI courses are taught by talented volunteers. Many are retired university professors, but some are self-taught experts who are passionate about their subject matter. The curriculum committee is always looking for creative, dedicated instructors to teach new courses and expand on the breadth of topics offered by OLLI.
OLLI offers instructors an opportunity to teach adult learners who have a passion for learning and an overall curiosity. These unique students truly appreciate their courses and the expertise of those who teach them.
- Course scheduling is flexible, but typically a course meets once per week for three to six weeks with 90 minutes per class. Classes are offered primarily during the day, but can be offered in the evening as well. OLLI has two semesters per year: fall (Sept. – Dec.) and spring (Feb. – June) which are split into a session A and session B. Read current course descriptions here.
OLLI is predominately a volunteer organization and while we’re not able to provide financial compensation to our instructors, they are offered free tuition for two semesters – the one in which they teach and the following one, as well as being able to take advantage of member-only happy hours, Special Presentations, and outings. In addition, instructor spouses/partners pay just the membership fee and then can take courses free of charge during the same time period.
OLLI’s Curriculum Committee reserves the right to select or reject courses based on the needs of the program and interests of its members. The Curriculum Committee is composed of OLLI members who have volunteered their time to establish a diverse and appealing course curriculum for OLLI members.
