Tom Cunningham is a graduate of Rhodes College and the Darden School at UVa. He spent 25 years in banking, serving as Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and President of First Virginia Bank-Colonial. Following his tenure in banking, he was President and CEO of Westminster Canterbury Richmond. During his years at Westminster Canterbury he visited more than 200 retirement communities throughout the United States, noting the unique characteristics of each community and its residents. He is now a principal of Westhampton Associates and is the author of Movin’ On: Understanding Options in Retirement Living.

Life for today’s retirees is very different than it was for our parents.  We will discuss: the great adventure that lies ahead for each of us in the last one-third of one’s lifetime; the opportunities and challenges, the joys and frustrations of moving into this period, and how to meet each of these situations; the dynamics inherent in today’s group of retirees; what to look for (and to be wary of) in retirement communities; and how to plan for each “scene” in the Third Act.

Suggested Reading: Movin’ On: Understanding Options in Retirement Living. Available for purchase at the first class session at the author’s discount. Handouts will be distributed in each of the three sessions.
