Rosemary Clark is an independent scholar and cultural historian. She leads special-interest groups to Egypt and the Sinai and has illustrated The Travelers Key to Ancient Egypt. Her study of the spiritual legacy of antiquity is presented in a two-volume series, The Sacred Tradition in Ancient Egypt and The Sacred Magic of Ancient Egypt, and her research in several world traditions is presented in The Everything Meditation Book.
Most of the material on daily life in ancient Egypt is derived from the archeological record. This overview of the religion and spiritual practices of antiquity will draw from the sacred literature, textual and monumental, that discloses the enigmatic themes of life and death as the ancient Egyptians expressed them. The activities of the House of Life, the House of the Dead, and the content of Sacred Science will be examined. Topics will include material on cultural survivals, examining some of the language, beliefs, and customs in modern Egypt that have survived from ancient times.
Suggested Reading: (Available from Instructor) The Sacred Tradition in Ancient Egypt (2000); The Sacred Magic of ancient Egypt (2003); both Llewellyn Worldwide.
