This course will demystify the differences among assertive, nonassertive and aggressive behavior and demonstrate nonverbal and language techniques for improving communication; provide practice to improve listening skills; examine roadblocks to assertive behavior and how to break them down; and clarify specific techniques to use with family, friends and co-workers. Additional techniques for becoming an assertive consumer (including medical consumer) will be demonstrated and practiced. Practice and participation in group exercises create a lively and fun atmosphere for learning new skills. There will be many opportunities to experience success through practice and sharing personal stories of achievement at each session.
